Congratulations to the twelve students at Beechgrove Academy -their Young Enterprise business initiative Link2Nature has won the Area, County and now the Southeast Regional Finals.
They are currently preparing for the UK National Finals to be held on 1st-3rd July 2012 where they will compete against 12 other teams.
In addition to the nature baskets they developed to win the earlier stages of the competition, they have now developed a children’s storybook; The Adventures of Piney Conus. The book aims to encourage young children to love and care for the natural environment, and inspire them to use their imaginations. In the story a pine cone man experiences a series of close calls as first his forest is felled, then burned, and machines constantly roar by. Finally, when Piney Conus awakes from sleep he realises that many small pine trees are growing; as he fled for his life he left a trail of seeds that are sprouting into trees. The forest is regenerated despite human destruction.
Outdoor Matters is delighted to wish the students lots of luck as they enter the final stages of the competition.
