Link2Nature is a young enterprise initiative based in East Kent. Twelve students at Beech Grove Academy have designed ‘Nature Baskets ‘ to strengthen children’s connection to the natural world. It has been my pleasure to support and encourage the students through the product development stage by sharing ideas, helping them evaluate the natural resources that I use for Outdoor Matters training events, and discussing some of the challenges they face in creating and marketing their own product.
With the Nature Baskets now launched and available to buy online it is clear that the students have been incredibly busy -researching, designing, trialling and branding their product. The nature baskets are attractive and durable. They are light enough to be independently accessed by a child, yet contain enough resources to ensure that small groups of children can play with the materials simultaneously. The accompanying leaflet includes useful curriculum links, photographs and an inventory of the contents -with both pictures and words -vital to facilitate children’s involvement in tidying up routines!
