Many early years practitioners are concerned about the lack of time today’s children spend outdoors and in natural environments. However, this is not just a problem for schools and settings, it is part of a worrying childhood trend away from outdoor experiences that has been evident for several years and has recently gained media attention through the publication of two reports investigating the problem.
Both reports are readable and informative and provide very useful quotes and statistics. If you need to make the case for using outdoors more in your school or setting I recommend you use these reports to strengthen your case.
After all, many young children spend the majority of their day in schools and settings -if we don’t make the most of outdoors we restrict their experiences even more!
